About Silvia Senna
Silvia graduated from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC Minas), in Brazil, with her journalism degree. During her four-year program, communication and broadcasting caught her attention and she prioritized these two fields throughout her career. Her first internship was at the audiovisual laboratory of her university where she assisted students with filming and editing videos. There, she learned the basics of lighting, camera operation and video editing. She then interned at a local TV Channel, where she assisted in the production of a TV program.
Although that was an excellent experience, she had to move on. She was selected by her university to study abroad. Since she had done a high school exchange program in Cranbrook, BC, she knew how great this opportunity would be. She spent the last six months of 2018 in Vancouver, studying at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU). There, she had many classes related to radio and television and it made her even more sure of what path she wanted to take.
Silvia then finished her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and got a Diploma, with distinction, in Broadcast and Online Journalism from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).
During her time at BCIT, Silvia had the opportunity to work with SFU Athletics, where she assisted the social media team with editing and shooting content for their platforms. She also worked with CBC Toronto, assisting in the production of CBC Kids News. Lastly, she was able to work as a video journalist for CKPG-TV, where she was responsible for editing, researching and reporting daily news. Lastly, Silvia worked as a full-time video journalist and radio anchor at CFJC-TV, in Kamloops, B.C.
Currently, Silvia is a freelancer camera operator for Sports Canada TV, where she assists with the live stream of sports games.
Silvia wants to be recognized and remembered for her profession. She wants to take advantage of all the great opportunities that come her way and dedicate herself to all of them to improve the quality of her work.
While a student at PUC Minas, KPU and at BCIT, Silvia had the opportunity to learn several valuable skills such as writing, teamwork, leadership, as well as video and audio production. These skills will undoubtedly contribute to her success in broadcasting.
Besides her professional experiences, Silvia knows how important it is in her career to be able to communicate in different languages. She knows how to speak Portuguese, English, Spanish and French. Silvia is also passionate about helping her community. She volunteers in a Brazilian association that does monthly visits to asylums, hospitals and orphanages.
Silvia is looking forward to see what the journalism industry has in store for her.
